Her Name was Elly

────────

She was the prettiest cat in Nepeta Grove, or purrtiest, as its said in Cat Felicity. Elly loved Arion and her house more than anything in the world. Every morning, Elly woke Arion with a kiss. Just before he leaves for work she’d give him a ‘have a safe day at work’ kiss, and when he returned, a long and paralyzing kiss waited for him at the door—imagine if that tidbit ever got out, he’d truly be the envy of all husbands. So he kept his kisses to himself and told nobody, not even Big Pea.

In the afternoons, Elly enjoyed taking long walks in the Grove woods. Shed always return with a bagful of wild herbs to make her special spices. Elly’s best friend, Ms. Peachmo, owns a shop at the market and helps sell all her delicious spices. Elly’s life couldn’t be any rosier, but there was something missing.

Kitties runnin’ ‘round your head again? That was Ms. Peachmo’s favourite saying whenever she’d catch Elly drifting off to kitty-land. With Arion traveling often far away to build new houses, Elly’s been drifting off practically every minute of her waking life. Now, instead of afternoon walks, she’d sit on the patio daydreaming of little kitties. Shed see them running through the house playing in the sunlit rooms and corridors with her and Arion.

Having a family was her dream, and daydreaming of one made her smile when she felt lonely.
